Încondeierea ouălelor pentru Paști este un obicei străvechi de pe cuprinsul României și al Republicii Moldova.
În Joia Mare, se încondeiază și se vopsesc prin diferite tehnici.

linia dreapta verticală care simbolizează viata ; linia dreaptă orizontală - moartea ; linia dublă dreaptă - eternitatea ; linia cu dreptunghiuri - gândirea si cunoașterea ; linia ușor ondulată - apa, purificarea ; spirala - timpul, eternitatea ; dubla spirală - legătura dintre viață și moarte
